Helbiz 01: APP Usability Test

Optimize HELBIZ as a user-friendly platform for convenient, eco-friendly shared riding. We focused on enhancing safety, user efficiency, and sustainability, resulting in a redesigned app with improved information architecture, workflow, and UI elements, leading to significantly enhanced usability and user satisfaction.

Conclusion

HELBIZ was founded on October 16, 2015, by Italian serial entrepreneur Salvatore Palella, and it stands as the pioneer in introducing the shared electric scooter model in Italy. The HELBIZ app serves as a platform for shared electric scooters, offering a seamless last-mile solution that prioritizes both technical efficiency and environmental sustainability.

To enhance the riding experience with the HELBIZ app, we conducted both remote and on-site usability testing sessions. Our team in Milan, Italy, performed qualitative analysis using desk research and heuristic evaluation. Additionally, five user testing participants were recruited in Milan, Italy, for qualitative and quantitative assessments, employing methods such as Usability Test, After-Scenario Questionnaire (ASQ), and System Usability Scale (SUS).

The data gathered revealed several key findings:

  • The average System Usability Scale (SUS) score falls below 51, indicating an urgent need to enhance usability.

  • Introducing new features emerged as the highest priority issue identified by both experts and users.

  • Disordered Information Architecture was highlighted as the primary concern from users' perspective.

  • Insufficient instruction was identified as the most critical problem from the experts' standpoint.
